They are also skilled in counterintelligence. Intel Officers will direct intelligence dissemination and support to the Marine planning process and targeting of the enemy. Ground Intelligence Officer0203 - Ground Intelligence Officers can serve as primary platoon commanders in division reconnaissance companies, infantry battalion scout/sniper platoons and other ground intelligence assignments. behauptung assignments can include Battalion, Regiment and Division Staffs, M arine Logistics Groups and Intelligence Battalions. They serve as commanders of the reconnaissance companies within division reconnaissance battalions and analyze gathered intelligence information and take action or make recommendations for larger elements to take action based on the facts and interpretations of the data. They are responsible for the planning, deployment and tactical employment of ground reconnaissance units, and they are also responsible for the discipline and welfare of their units Marines. Intelligence Warrant Officer 0205 - Senior all-source intelligence analysis chief warrant officers are subject matter experts in intelligence and are in leadership and advisory roles.They assist in planning, analysis, production, and dissemination of highly classified operational / tactical intelligence. 0205 are master analysts of tactical intelligence. Signals Intelligence Officer 0206 - Signals intelligence/ground electronic warfare (SIGINT/EW) officers command, or assist in commanding a SIGINT/EW unit and/or perform missions of a highly a technical nature with all types of communications open or encrypted. Air Intelligence Officer 0207 - AirIntelligence Officers (AIO) analyze gathered intelligence information and take or recommend action based on this information. With approval, AIOs can take decisive action on targets. They plan missions and deploy air reconnaissance units. AIOs are also responsible for their units communications capabilities, operational logistics, and maintenance. Duties Within the Intelligence OccFld The specialties within the intelligence OccFld include analysis, counterintelligence, image interpretation, and geographic intelligence. These are jobs that deal with highly sensitive, often classified information, so all Marinesassigned to an intelligence MOS are subject to a single scope background investigation (SSBI) prior to attending formal school. The basic requirements for a job in Marine intelligence include clerical, communication, and computer skills, as well as mastery of a variety of analytical and technical skills.Marines enter the field in MOS 0231(intelligence specialist) or MOS 0261 (geographic intelligence specialist). Intelligence marines also have the opportunity to serve in billets such as drill instructor, recruiter, and in Marine security guard duty. Here are some of the jobs in the Marines which are organized under the intelligence occupational field 0211 Counterintelligence/HUMINT (Human Intelligence) Specialist The duties of Marines in (MOS) 0211 involve sensitive work with enemy spies, saboteurs, and terrorists. Its often up to these Marines to interrogate suspects to gather crucial intel in a combat situation. This isnt an entry-level position, and is open only to corporals and sergeants, who can move into the role laterally. Applicants for this job must be at least 21, and have to be U.S. citizens. They need a general technical (GT) score of at least 110 on the Armed Servi ces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), and need a valid U.S. drivers license. The education requirements for MOS 211 include six months of on-the-job training at a fleet Marine force, and four-and-a-half months of counterintelligence/HUMINT basic course training at the Marine Corps detachment in Dam Neck, Virginia. 0212Technical Surveillance Countermeasures Specialists These specialists are involved with tactical and strategic operations andjoint technical surveillance countermeasure (TSCM) activities. They generally have a working knowledge of techniques and equipment used by foreign intelligence and terrorist organizations. Their highly sensitive work involves identifying and neutralizing threats to U.S. intelligence operations. Marines assigned to this MOS must already have a primary MOS of 211, 2621, 2631, or 2651. This MOS is open only to sergeants and above, and all must be able to commit to 36 months of service in the job. Theyll have to complete the TSCM fundamentals c ourse and the TSCM course 0231Intelligence Specialist Intelligence specialists collect, record, analyze, process and disseminate information and intelligence. Depending on his or her rank, this specialist may supervise intelligence sections of commands. Those who have a score of 100 on the defense language aptitude battery (DLAB) can attend language training at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. To qualify for this MOS, Marines need a general technical store on the ASVAB of 100 or higher. Theyll complete the MAGTF intelligence specialist entry course at the Navy Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center in Dam Neck. 0241Imagery Analysis Specialist These Marines usephotogrammetric skills (making maps or models out of photographs) to assist in creating accurate target acquisition information, and to help plan reconnaissance missions. The intelligence they collect is used to update the militarys databases. In buchung to qualify for this MOS, a Marine needs a general technical score of 100 or higher on the ASVAB, and need to complete the imagery analysis apprentice course at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas. 0261Geographic Intelligence Specialist Unlike some of the other jobs in this field, geographic intelligence specialist is an entry-level MOS. The job involves collecting, analyzing and processing geophysical data, and revision of military maps and targets based on that data. Theyll use electronic and satellite positioning equipment as part of their day-to-day duties. These specialists need an electronics repair score of 100 or higher on the ASVAB, and should show some proficiency in algebra, geometry and trigonometry. 0291Intelligence Chief Intelligence chiefs oversee operation of the intelligence section. They need a primary MOS of either 0211, 0231, 0241 or 0261, and have to be eligible for top-secret security clearance. Determine a protocol for your company personnel records based on state and Federal laws, employment laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and employer best practices. Then, stick with the protocol. You do not want to find random doctors excuses tucked into the personnel file when they belong in a medical file. Nor, do you want the rationale and justification for an employees promotion in the payroll file. You also dont want the records of a hiring decision that involve background checking or notes from discussions with former employers in the personnel file. Supervisors, managers and other employees who place documentation in personnel records need training. Any person who has access and can place documents in an employee personnel file needs training to appropriately write the documentation. Stating in an employee reprimand that the employee was a complete deadbeat wont win your personnel records any prizes. But, untrained supervisors have been known to write similar statements and place them in employee personnel files. Better yet, limit access to the files to your HR staff person who is responsible for the records and knows what should and should not be placed in a personnel file. Balance the information you place in personnel records. Include both the positive and the negative aspects of an employees employment history. Too often, personnel records emphasize every negative occurrence and miss the positive components that every employee experiences. Think raises, promotions, excellence rewards, and copies of praise and thank you note s. Recognize the difference between a supervisors personal notes about their reporting staff and the official company personnel records. The supervisors notes that are used for performance improvement, to track projects and goal completion, and to fairly determine raises and performance development plans, for example, belong in a supervisors private file, not in the companys official personnel records. Recognize, too, the need to train supervisors in how to take notes and maintain documentation in their management file. The same criteria for facts, not opinions, and specific examples, not hearsay, apply to private notes. The supervisors private notes can be subpoenaed in the instance of a lawsuit, so caution is recommended even for private notes. The practice of supervisors keeping copies of records that exist in the official employee personnel file in their management file is not recommended. Hiring documentation and interview notes present a bit of a quandary. The best practice i s to maintain a separate file for each punkt you fill that includes all of the documentation related to filling that position from the job posting to the reference checks. The applicants resumes, cover letters, and applications belong in this file except that you should move the hired employees application to the employee personnel file. This file has the official checklists and forms that strive for unbiased representation of a potential employees qualifications and support your decision to hire the most qualified candidate. The hiring managers opinions and notes that were taken during the hiring process do not belong in this file. Human Resources may collect these notes to maintain complete documentation on an employment decision, but they do not belong in the personnel records. Factual documentation about employment decisions. This documentation includes such decisions as promotion, transfer to a seitlich opportunity, and salary increases and they belong in the personnel records. The supervisors or HRs opinions about the employee do not. Official disciplinary action documentation such as a written warning also belongs in the employees personnel file. Specific Examples of Documentation That Should Not Be in Personnel Records The following information should not be placed in personnel records. The documentation may require a separate file, may be classified as supervisory or management notes, or should not be kept at all by an employer. Any medical information belongs in the medical file.Payroll information belongs in the payroll file.Documents that include employee social security numbers or information about an employees protected classifications such as age, race, gender, national origin, disability, marital status, religious beliefs and so forth should never be kept in the personnel files.Supervisory documentation for the purpose of managing an employees work, setting goals, feedback provided and so forth should be filed in a private, supervisor or ma nager-owned folder. Investigation materialincluding the employee complaint, witness interviews, employee interview, findings, attorney recommendations, and resolution, plus follow-up to ensure noretaliation, should reside in an investigation file that is separate from personnel records.File employee I-9 forms in an I-9 file or location, away from employee personnel records.Place background checks including criminal history, credit reports, and so forth, and the results of drug testing in a separate file that supervisors, managers, and the employee cannot access. SHRM recommends either this separate file or recommends that this information may also be filed in the employees medical file. Employee Equal Opportunity records such as self-identification forms and government reports should not be kept in the personnel file nor anywhere the supervisor has access. If you follow these guidelines, your organization is effectively storing factual, supportable employment history and personnel r ecords in the appropriate locations. In May, weretold Nesbits story of meeting rural healthcare workers who walk 45 miles to collect information on patients. Nesbit saw the problemduring a visitto Malawi in 2008 when he was an undergraduate student at Standford.Since then, Nesbits company, Medic Mobile, has helped hospitals in rural Malawi digitize their medical records and, usinga text-message-basedsystem,dramatically cut the time it takes them to track patients. We caught up with Nesbit between trips in his tightly packed schedule. These are five questions with Josh Nesbit.E4C What do you say to skeptics who believe that the value of the cell phone in international development might be over-hyped? JN Right now, the power of the phone comes from its ubiquity and notlage necessarily its features. The phones that are being purchased at scale in areas where the value to development work is highest are ultra-low-end handsets capable of texting, navigating SIM menus and calling. But the fact that this connectivity is the new lowest common denominator thats a game-changing platform and reality. I will say that I love the built-in flashlights in $12 phonesE4C SIM apps forcollecting data with cheap phonesis new, but in its testing phase. Have you had a chanceyetto see the impact it can have? JN Great question, but were just now implementing the pilot in Malawi focused on community case management to improve child health. Pilots in a few other countries will follow in the next three months, and we hope to scale from there.E4C Would you mention how Medic Mobile uses these open source platforms FrontlineSMS, OpenMRS, Ushahidi, Google Apps, and HealthMap. JN Weve implemented and developed tools for FrontlineSMS, including the base platform, FrontlineForms (a java application for data collection through mobile forms that runs on specific mid-level handsets), TextForms (a tool to manage data collection through structured SMS exchanges), and PatientView (a lightweight patient and health worker records system, with a heavy emphasis on managing community-level data and services). We also built out the messaging module for OpenMRS, which is an enterprise-level, web-based medical records system.HealthMap and Ushahidi are popular mapping applications weve worked closely with the brilliant teams behind the technology but havent contributed code to date.We collaborated with Googles disaster response team on their development of Resource Finder, a dynamic resource mapping platform.
